A New Kind of Storage for Faster Data Access
The X25-M is a SATA II hard drive with a capacity of 160 GB. Additionally, it's in a 2.5-inch form factor that will work anywhere a regular 2.5-inch hard drive does, such as in notebook computers and external enclosures.

But don't think that the X25-M is any old drive. Instead of using spinning platters like traditional hard drives, the X25-M is a Solid State Drive (SSD), and it uses flash memory for storage, giving you dramatically faster data access. If you need less disk space, the X25-M also comes in a 80 GB version.

Performs Faster than Other Solid State Drives
Intel has been making memory chips for decades, and the company's experience is clearly displayed with the X25-M drive, which uses Intel's Multi-Level Cell (MLC) NAND Flash Memory. This delivers better performance than other SSDs, thanks to an advanced architecture and technologies such as Native Command Queuing, which enables up to 32 simultaneous operations. The result is sustained sequential read speeds of up to 250 MBps, sustained sequential write speeds of up to 70 MBps, and a read latency of just 85 microseconds.

And thanks to the drive's SATA interface that offers data throughput of up to 3.0 Gbps, you can take advantage of all that speed. What all this means for you is that applications launch instantaneously, files copy in less time, and your overall productivity is increased.

Optimize Performance with the Intel SSD Toolbox
Intel offers the Intel SSD Toolbox with Intel SSD Optimizer, so you can easily optimize and manage the performance of your drive. Simply download the Intel SSD Toolbox and you'll get a powerful set of management, information, and diagnostic tools to help you maintain performance at "fresh out-of-the-box" levels. The Intel SSD Toolbox with Intel SSD Optimizer is specially designed to run on Microsoft Windows 7, and it also works with Microsoft Windows Vista and XP.

Higher Reliability and Silent Operation
Compared to traditional hard drives, the X25-M is both faster and more durable. Because it doesn't have spinning disks or writing heads, there are fewer parts to fail. It is also less susceptible to vibration and shock and is completely silent. Providing superb reliability, the X25-M is rated at 1.2 million hours mean time before failure (MTBF).

Lower Power Consumption is Good for the Environment
The X25-M also consumes far less power than traditional drives, which saves you money and makes this drive an environmentally friendly choice. The drive is certified RoHS compliant for its use of non-hazardous materials. Additionally, when it's installed in a laptop, the X25-M will give you better battery life, which means you can work longer on cross-country plane trips.

The Intel X25-M Mainstream SATA II Solid State Drive supports Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) commands, as well as additional SSD monitoring.

The X25-M is backed by a three-year limited warranty.

What's in the Box
Intel X25-M Solid State Drive (SSD), manual, sticker and 3.5" desktop drive bay adapter, screws and installation guide.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for a performance computer   August 1, 2010
I am IT support manager for a corporate group. And PC's are my obsession and now my job. I first bought an 80GB one for one of my office computer upgrades. Fast is not the right word for it. Windows 7 experience index jumped to 7.2 from 2.2 for HDD performance. And I remembered this was the only thing slowing another machine of mine at home which I primarily use for gaming and went to buy this 160GB one of the eBay for about half the price (becareful buying these from eBay if you're not aware of the eBay market) My gaming machine scored a full 7.2 Win 7 Experience and the game (GTA4) started flying. I would've preferred buying from Amazon as a regular customer and for the validity of the warranty, but the price was simpky way out of my budget. However if you can afford it this is a must have for a performance based machine.

5 out of 5 stars FAST and Quiet   July 30, 2010
The Intel 160 ssDrive. Is great. Installed it on my HP DV 6500 Laptop. A very noticable improvement of speed and it is very quiet. My start up to home page was 2.5 minutes now 43 seconds with windows 7. I don't ever plan on buying a computer without a ssd drive again.

5 out of 5 stars Works well as Windows 7 64-bit boot disk   July 21, 2010
Connects to existing SATA port on my Dell Studio XPS 8100. Was able to install Windows 7 64-bit
directly on this drive. Added device drivers from the supplied Dell drivers CD. And configured
hard drives to hold User files and other data.

5 out of 5 stars Faster than three 10k drives in RAID 0!   July 16, 2010

I was having trouble with one of the drives in my RAID and ordered this. Moved the OS over to this and WOW! I thought I had a fast system before, but this just created a smoker!

I've had it now for three months and have had absolutely no problems on a Win7 x64 machine that is used heavily for programming, graphics and 15+ RDC sessions at a time.

4 out of 5 stars what can I say that wasn't said before   July 1, 2010

don't let review numbers confuse you.
it runs fast.
windows will load much faster.
software installation will run considerably faster.
but loading a single piece of software or game you won't notice that much of a difference...
for example I did not notice any improvement in performance starting GTA IV...

but it is quiet, safe, fast, intel, easy to use (and comes with the needed adapter).
why not: very expansive!
buy the smaller one and upgrade in 2-3 years when it will be cheaper..
