The future of computer storage is here! The Intel X25-M Mainstream SATA II Solid State Drive (OEM) provides faster disk performance and greater durability than traditional hard drives. Since it stores data using NAND flash memory instead of spinning platters, the X25-M will never keep you waiting for disks to spin up. For further convenience, there are no moving parts to worry about breaking down.

X25-M Solid State Drive (OEM) features:
  • 160 GB of solid state storage.
  • No moving parts for better reliability and performance.
  • Silent operation.
  • Lower battery consumption than traditional drives.

A New Kind of Storage for Faster Data Access
The X25-M is a SATA II hard drive with a capacity of 160 GB. Additionally, it's in a 2.5-inch form factor that will work anywhere a regular 2.5-inch hard drive does, such as in notebook computers and external enclosures.

But don't think that the X25-M is any old drive. Instead of using spinning platters like traditional hard drives, the X25-M is a Solid State Drive (SSD), and it uses flash memory for storage, giving you dramatically faster data access. If you need less disk space, the X25-M also comes in a 80 GB version.

Performs Faster than Other Solid State Drives
Intel has been making memory chips for decades, and the company's experience is clearly displayed with the X25-M drive, which uses Intel's Multi-Level Cell (MLC) NAND Flash Memory. This delivers better performance than other SSDs, thanks to an advanced architecture and technologies such as Native Command Queuing, which enables up to 32 simultaneous operations. The result is sustained sequential read speeds of up to 250 MBps, sustained sequential write speeds of up to 70 MBps, and a read latency of just 85 microseconds.

And thanks to the drive's SATA interface that offers data throughput of up to 3.0 Gbps, you can take advantage of all that speed. What all this means for you is that applications launch instantaneously, files copy in less time, and your overall productivity is increased.

Optimize Performance with the Intel SSD Toolbox
Intel offers the Intel SSD Toolbox with Intel SSD Optimizer, so you can easily optimize and manage the performance of your drive. Simply download the Intel SSD Toolbox and you'll get a powerful set of management, information, and diagnostic tools to help you maintain performance at "fresh out-of-the-box" levels. The Intel SSD Toolbox with Intel SSD Optimizer is specially designed to run on Microsoft Windows 7, and it also works with Microsoft Windows Vista and XP.

Higher Reliability and Silent Operation
Compared to traditional hard drives, the X25-M is both faster and more durable. Because it doesn't have spinning disks or writing heads, there are fewer parts to fail. It is also less susceptible to vibration and shock and is completely silent. Providing superb reliability, the X25-M is rated at 1.2 million hours mean time before failure (MTBF).

Lower Power Consumption is Good for the Environment
The X25-M also consumes far less power than traditional drives, which saves you money and makes this drive an environmentally friendly choice. The drive is certified RoHS compliant for its use of non-hazardous materials. Additionally, when it's installed in a laptop, the X25-M will give you better battery life, which means you can work longer on cross-country plane trips.

The Intel X25-M Mainstream SATA II Solid State Drive supports Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) commands, as well as additional SSD monitoring.

The X25-M is backed by a three-year limited warranty.

5 out of 5 stars pay the extra money for a better ssd   August 19, 2010

Ive used previous ssd's from other companies - I will state off that you should spend a little more money and get a better ssd from Intel. I've only used this drive for a few weeks but will definately update this review if I see problems with this drive. Let me start off by saying I was having problems with an OCZ 120 vertex drive and had to RMA it twice because it kept freezing up randomly in Windows (Windows 7 64-bit). I decided it's time to just bite the bullet and try out the Intel drive; so far so good. Then again the OCZ drive lasted for over a year before it started giving trouble so I'll have to see how the Intel one performs. No problems at all with Windows install and more importantly no freezing up and corrupting.

This is by far the best way to speed up your computer. I bought the unit and installed it in an HP 8730w Mobile Workstation and the difference was unbelievable. I am running Windows 7 Professional which I use primarily for software development.

Before installing the drive I compiled a Visual Studio 2008 C++ project that I am working on and it took between 20 and 25 seconds to build (I did the test 5 times to get a good sample). After installation of the SSD, I again did the same test and the times were between 5 and 7 seconds.

I also have installed on the same computer Microsoft Office 2010. It is so nice to click on the icon for any of the applications and have it appear ready to use right away. There is virtually no delay in loading.

I liked the unit so much I ordered a second unit to install in an HP TouchSmart tx2 notebook. Just as before the results were very noticable. The performance for everything from the Offcie applications to the handwriting recognition was much improved.

For both machines now it takes longer for the BIOS screen to disappear than for Windows to load and ready for your login.

5 out of 5 stars fast and silent, best upgrade for the money   August 1, 2010
I was prepared for my laptop to be a bit faster, but it really blew me away when I started to use this thing. I'm a software developer, so I spend a lot of time on the command line and searching through lots of files. It was only when I started searching across one of my larger projects (around 700 files) that I realized how much faster this was than my old drive.

The second thing that totally blew me away was that my laptop is no completely silent and does not feel mechanical. I used to get pain in my hands/wrists from using my laptop too long. Turns out that most of that was due to the vibration of my old hard drive.

I'll never go back to spindle based drives in my laptops, and I'm strongly considering getting an SSD as a boot drive in my desktop.

This is the most significant upgrade you can make. You will forget what it is like to wait on your computer. Also, VM Ware Fusion went from being unusable to blazingly fast after this upgrade. I cannot recommend this SSD enough.

5 out of 5 stars Great Equipment   April 24, 2010
Installed in a MacBook Pro. Everything was perfect, hardly any heat off the bottom of the computer now, which is great to have setting on your lap. Battery life is better, but not as measurable. The speed is the most wonderful part. I had thought about upgrading to a newer model. By adding this and the new Snow Lepard, the speed is better than my desktop, which is a CAD machine built for speed.

Only warning, the older MacBook Pro, make sure you are up to the task of installing this yourself if that is the intent. This is not easy and there are many slightly different variations within this model. It took about 30 minutes and some serious google searching to find the correct layout to follow. Have a large clean surface with things to mark the order and pieces to be able to reassemble correctly. Bending the outer case is a common problem and follow the warnings.
