NOT INTIRELY AS ADVERTISED September 4, 2010 EASY TO USE IF YOUR UPGRADING TO THE SAME SIZE DRIVE BUT FORGET ABOUT DOWN-SIZING
Very slick and easy!! August 21, 2010 I wanted to put in a faster and larger hard drive in my laptop, but wasn't sure it was going to be worth the time and effert to bring all my data over to the new disk drive. With the Apricorn software and the USB connection it was EASY! Installed the software on my laptop with what was going to be my old drive (320 MB, 4500 RPM), connected what was going to be my new drive(500 MB, 7200 RPM) and let the software do its thing. When it was completed, I popped my old drive out, put new drive in and the laptop booted up and worked and EVERYTHING looked the same. Only I had a bigger, faster drive. It worked GREAT!
Absolutely Terrible July 10, 2010 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this product to back up the hard disk from my damaged HP Pavilion notebook before I got the notebook repaired and restored. I have had nothing but problems with it and now it doesn't even look like I will be able to restore the files I "backed up" using this program. First of all, I had to modify the hard drive itself because the included cable would not plug in to the hard drive due to the white base being much wider than the actual plug. I had to bend two metal protrusions from the hard drive so they would not get in the way of the over-sized white part of the cable. This is extremely bad design on the company's part. However, the biggest problems I had was with the software. Although it apparently is supposed to give you the option to back up certain folders and files, it would not do so in my case. Every time I tried to select this option the program would freeze up on me and I would have to restart it. I was running this on a perfectly good desktop computer too so I know it was the program and not the computer. I ended up having to back up the whole hard drive, all 140 gigabytes of it, when I only wanted to back up around 40 gigabytes. This process took a good 8 hours, 8 hours in which I couldn't use my desktop computer at all. After this was finally finished I had ONE compressed 80 gigabyte file simply named "mybackup" sitting on my computer.
When I got my repaired laptop sent back to me I was ready to restore the files, not knowing that it would be nearly impossible with this program. After setting up a file sharing network so that my laptop would have access to the huge backup file on my desktop, I installed the EZ gig software onto the laptop and attempted to restore the files. The only problem was that the program would not function AT ALL. Every time I tried to do anything it would freeze up and cease to work. Keep in mind that I was running it on a fully functional laptop that could run any other program I put on it with no problem. Now I have no idea how I'm going to get all my media and documents out of this one "mybackup" file since I can't even run the program, the only program possible, to restore them. This is a terrible product and I would not recommend anyone buying it. It may have worked for other people, but it was the complete opposite for me. If you have a situation any similar to mine then I advise you to not even consider purchasing this product. Take your problem to a professional and let them do it instead of dealing with this nightmare of a product.
Good Product May 18, 2010 I would recommend this to anyone who wants an easy way to clone their hard drive. I wanted to upgrade my 80 Gbyte hard drive to a 320 Gbyte hard drive. The process was easy and simple. The reviews here on Amazon really helped me to know ahead of time what to do and expect.
Also, their technical support at Apricorn was good. I e-mailed a question, and got a clear, well written explanation later that day.
The only problem I had was that the SATA connection was a little tight, and I had some trouble getting the cable onto and off of the hard drive.
Apricorn HD Cloning device/software April 17, 2010 This is exactly what I wanted. It works like a charm (very easy and intuitive). Clones a 120gb SATA HD in about 25 minutes! The seller shipped immediately, and I received the product very quickly.
