Best Hard Drive I own so far September 1, 2010 It was quite a pain in the neck to install with Win7 at first. It is also not as simple to configure as normal hard drives since it requires Windows settings to be adjusted, for instance defrag should be deactivated for this drive to preserve its lifespan and because it is useless. It also requires some firmware updates once in a while since it is a new technology. it aslo cost an arm and a leg to buy and the cost per GB is ridiculously high compared to conventional hard drives. After mentioning all the cons, I still love it! It is by far the fastest Hard Drive I have ever owned. My PC went from fast to incredibly fast!
Recommended uses: For Operating System mainly. For storage, use conventional drives since they do not require high speed. For gaming, not necessary either since once the game is loaded, the video card and the RAM are more important.
WOW! Fast! May 26, 2010 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
And I thought IDE drives were fast. This thing blows away any traditional hard drive that I have ever used by far. It installs perfectly easily and requires no instructions as far as I am concerned. It is extremely fast too. From power on until a working Windows 7 desktop appears (no hourglass) it takes about 45 seconds. I thought I would only be able to install Windows and a couple of apps but I got all my apps on it and still have 32 GB to spare! You will notice a Huge difference when opening any app, web browser, email, anything. A little pricey right now but Definitely worth it. Get one. No- Get two. They are that good.
Good buy April 28, 2010 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I installed this SSD into an Acer 1410 netbook. Previously the netbook took 53 seconds to boot. Now it takes 30. MS Works and Adobe reader 9 took about 8 seconds to load. Now Adobe reader 9 loads instantly, while MS Works takes 4 seconds.
Yup. If you want speed get yourself an SSD.
I did not have any other large apps on the netbook to test with so sorry about that.
Long lasting April 17, 2010 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have now had this drive about a year. It has been in several computers and is still running strong. The drive is faster then any mechanical hard drive out there. The model I received had firmware version 1.1, but upgrading to 1.3, 1.4 and finally 1.5 was very easy.
SSDs really do help battery life, boot speeds, and basic file operation speeds. Other people seem to notice as well, when they started up their computer first and yours is already in Windows and online even though you booted yours second.
SSD's eliminate the ticking hard drive sounds, help reduce the amount of heat in your laptop, and are over all worth the extra price. This drive has worked with XP, Vista and now Windows 7 no problem. If you are thinking about replacing to a new drive, try the Apricorn drive cloning cable I have reviewed: it makes the drive upgrading process very easy for very little!
It rates at a 5.9 in Windows 7 with firmware 1.1. I haven't checked the score since updating the firmware to support the new Trim features.
apparantly great drive can't install April 12, 2010 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought the OCZ 6 gig for my Acer Aspire 6930. But now I find I need an adapter for the pins and can't find that anywhere. Acer offers to sell me a phone card for $60 to tell me that they disapprove of my changing the drive. Huge problem.
Any suggestions.
